So how do we start becoming the deep, beautiful, fearless people God wants us to be? It has to begin with prayer. This is not our work, but God’s work within us.

We ended our "No More Normal" series with a focus on prayer culminating in a week of prayer. To put it succinctly, prayer is powerful, and we're not likely to get out of the rut without making that connection to God through prayer.

The Power of God

Reading: Acts 4:23-35; Luke 24:45-49

Our sermon for this week continued our theme of the Holy Spirit and the change he creates, and specifically, we wanted to see the element of power he brings to that change. Hand-wringing and timidity are not part of his work, but neither are we called to be bullies for Jesus.

Our week of prayer is in full swing, though we had to deal with an unexpected snowstorm that kept some of our pray-ers at home this morning. As our last look at prayer in the Bible we looked at the prayer of Jesus, or what is more commonly known as the Lord's Prayer.

The Prayer of Moses

We had a revival speaker in our service on the 5th, but now we're back into the preparations for our upcoming week of prayer. This last Sunday we learned from Moses, a man who spend a good part of his life living very close to God and therefore knew that God wants us to see him in our prayer.

This Sunday was the first Sunday in Lent, and at Pocono Lake, we're taking this season to focus specifically on how we as a church can serve God better. We want to know how he wants us to enter into his work in the world. And since Carey and I are new to the church, that means we (as a church and as pastors) need to spend time intentionally seeking God. One way to do that is through prayer, which is the focus of this week's sermon. This sermon talks about how we pray and what happens when we pray. I'll give you a hint: prayer is not a chance for us to tell God what we want him to do.
