Holy Week Sermons: "How Did We Come to This?" and "There is Joy Here"
I preached two sermons last week, since we had the privilege of hosting the churches of the ecumenical council for this year's Good Friday service. The first is, of course, the Good Friday sermon, followed by our Easter sermon.
Preached on Friday, April 22 at the Ecumenical Good Friday service at PLWC.
Reading: John 18-19

Come Awake
Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20; John 20:1-22
We had a great Easter at Pocono Lake Wesleyan; I hope you did, too. For our worship this year we explored the question of whether humans are meant to slowly decline, year after year, into death, or whether we are meant to become more and more alive and awake as we grow older.

Holy Week Sermons: "The Hospitality of God" and "On The Move"
Last week being Holy Week, things ran a little differently than normal for us. We held a Maundy Thursday communion service this year in place of our normal midweek prayer meeting, so the first sermon below was written for that service. The second sermon below was our Easter Sunday sermon, dealing with the apparently open-ended way Mark ends his account of the resurrection.

When the Ground Shakes
Preached on March 23, 2008 at PLWC.
Reading: Psalm 18:1-20, 46; Matthew 27:62-28:10
This last Sunday was, of course, Easter, and so this year I started from that curious order Pilate gave the guards for the tomb: "Make it as secure as you know how." Just how secure can we be in the face of something like an emptying tomb?
